Programme
Outline and duration
This
part-time Diploma in Wealth Management consists
of 7 modules can be completed in 9 months. Each
module takes place over a period of a month,
comprising 76 hours per month.
Participants will be involved in interactive lectures, group discussions, activities
and exercises. Each participant's learning will be assessed by way of continuous
assessment, such as assignments, tests, quizzes, oral presentations and/ or examination,
which allows participants to demonstrate competency at stages of learning.
The
7 modules are: WM - 810 Options Trading
This module focuses on an overview and current trends
of options trading. Options trading is an attractive
wealth management tool that constitutes an alternative to trading
stocks. Whilst
options trading will be relaunched in Singapore
very soon, options can also be traded in many developed markets
(such as the Chicago
Board Options Exchange) via the internet. The unit
covers the various technical aspects of options. In addition,
psychological
and strategic aspects of options trading are covered
on an introductory level.
WM - 811 Financial Considerations of High Net-worth
Individuals
This module focuses on the development of effective
investment policy for mass affluent and high net-worth
clients. It covers the industry overview and trends in the private
banking
business, compliance and regulation, and an appreciation
of the microeconomic impact on the business and client relationship
management
in the context of wealth management.
WM - 812 Portfolio Construction
This module covers the first part of the investment
process from constructing investment objectives
and policies to asset allocation, security selection, revisions,
monitoring, and
performance measurement and attribution for individual
and institutional clients. The concepts of risk and return, modern
portfolio theory
and the market anomalies will be discussed in great
depths.
WM - 813 Alternative Investments
This module covers portfolio strategies such as tactical
asset allocation to re-balance a portfolio of financial
assets. A detailed analysis of the various hedging
strategies for equities
and fixed income will be discussed. The role of
private equity, hedge funds and venture capital
in wealth management will also
be included. Further understanding of alternative
assets such as commodities; precious metals, arts & paintings,
stamps, real estate and insurance will be deliberated
too.
WM - 814 Risk Management Strategies
This module focuses on the current role and the position
of risk management practices within the wealth
management industry. It will provide an understanding of the wealth
management firms'
risk exposure and their approaches to measure and
manage those risks. Topics will include the identification of
market, credit,
operational, legal and reputational risks on various
types of financial products. Mitigation of risk and strategies
deployed
will be discussed concurrently with the identification
of risk.
WM - 815 Tax, Legal and Estate Planning
This module will focus on asset ownership structures
devised specifically to address the incidence of
taxes and to manage estate protection and generation planning.
It will identify
and discuss the different categories of taxes in
various countries that are relevant to the private investor and
how these impact
wealth accumulation and the ultimate wealth distribution
in the context of generation planning.
WM - 816 Paper Trading
This module covers both options and equity trading
designed for novice traders to gain practical trading
experience and also for experienced traders who need to refine
their strategies.
Participants use an Internet-based platform to trade
stocks and stock options. The programme gives
participants the opportunity
to practice
and gain valuable trading experience without losing
real capital. The trading history of the
participants will be tracked
and profits
and losses are evaluated. Paper Trading
participants
will be taught and coached on the different technical trading
techniques.

procedures and monitoring tools for various
banks over the years. Christopher has also
been providing finance-related trainings
to financial consultants and clients. Christopher
currently provides advisory to MNCs in
Beijing and conducts corporate training
focusing on a range of wealth management
courses for the banking sector and on risk
management to international central bankers
in London. He is also an Associate Member
of Singapore Society of Financial Analysts

Nicholas
has more than 10 years of experience in the
foreign exchange (FX or Forex) arena. He had
been a FX dealer with a few foreign banks and is
currently a remisier with UOB KayHian. His areas

quoting prices to both corporate and private
clients, to name but just a few. Nicholas is
currently facilitating the futures and currency
trading sections of our Diploma in Wealth
Management, Paper Trading module.

Joseph is an Associate
Financial Planner (AFP) with Financial
Planning Association of Singapore and Certified

Joseph has many years of exposure in the
banking sector. He currently champions
the development of integrated wealth platform
and other financial advisory tools for
Standard Chartered Bank. He provides investment
updates and strategies for the sales network,
educate sales network sophisticated investments
instruments and portfolio planning. He
also publishes monthly market update and
quarterly investment bulletin to high net-worth
clients and assists bankers in advising

Prior to the current portfolio, Joseph

involved in coordinating IPOs, especially
those from China and M&A projects.
Charlie is also a strong believer in lifelong

in the meantime started his own company

financial planning company with over 20,000
customers and $5 billion of funds under
advice. Paul also sits on Entrepreneur's
Resource Centre's Advisory Board. Paul
started his career in the life insurance
industry in 1985 with Great-West Life in
Canada in actuarial valuation, product
development, marketing, agency compensation,
and group underwriting. After 5 years with
Great-West Life, he joined North American
Life to reengineer the defined benefit
pension division. He was then recruited
by Assante Corporation to work on investment
management and business development. Paul
is also on the Executive Committee and
is head of the Certification Committee

Assessment
At the end of each module, participants will complete
an examination. The hands-on Paper Trading module
will also allow for students to put their newly
acquired skills and knowledge to the test, under
the careful guidance of two Mentors who will chart

The Diploma in Business is pre-approved by the Skills development Fund (SDF).
SDF was formed with the primary objective of encouraging employers to invest in skills upgrading of the workforce. The SDF does this by offering assistance as an incentive to companies to mount training programmes for employees.
